ShootAlong 2015 | February Photos

If you recall back in January on my New Years Resolutions, I said I was working on taking more photos of my family and joined a forum called ShootAlong. Well January I did better with taking photos of family and actually being in some but didn't try real hard to focus on the subject for that month. So my new goal is to really learn and enhance my skills each month using the tools, resources and lessons given to me from Shoot Along.

So for February, the lesson is on Selective Focus. I love using small apertures because it allows the background or foreground (or both) to blur. I still need practice to really tell a story with the use of this but I pulled out my camera at home on Valentine's day to catch Kira using her new paints. She loved this gift and painted nearly all weekend long. Notice the Chairs in the foreground are blurry as well as the coat rack and railing in the background. That's what selective focus is and I'm working on getting better at focusing on the exact point I want. I actually really love the picture of Kira's Paints. The first few colors and the back few are blurry but the middle ones are in focus. :)

Later that day we made Valentine's Sugar Cookies. My all time favorite. Kira loves it too but mostly because she's in it for the sugar, cookie dough and her new thing... salt. Yup straight salt. Yuck. It was cute though and she learned all the ingredients she needs to bake these cookies. We even ended up making a second batch on Sunday because we ran out! Again I tried to use the Selective Focus and Depth of field look on these so some of the photo is meant to be blurry. Overall it was a successful day with painting, cookies and sharing love with others. And getting in some personal photos while we were at it :)
