The Tuesday Ten | Favorite Family Games, Vol. 2

8:13 AM Posted by Stacey , No comments
The Tuesday Ten

If you've followed my Tuesday Ten's for at least a year you may recall a super fun post last January about my Favorite Family Games. It included games like Cover your Assets, Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan. This post is a follow up of additional FUN FAMILY Games we've learned about or played since that post. We love family games, and the holidays last month reminded of just that.

1.  SKULL KING
We got this for my Dad for Christmas. It's from the same makers as Cover your Assets. Totally fun, pretty easy and quick to learn! There are 10 rounds and you bet on how many "tricks" you'll take. Seriously fun and you make make or break other peoples bets! It's our new favorite and it's cheap! You can pick it up locally for about $10 or on amazon for around $12. TOTALLY worth the small investment!

2. PIT
An easy game for teenage kids to join in. You each play with a hand of cards and continue trying to trade with other players until you have all of the same cards. Meanwhile trying to steer clear of the Bear and either winning with the Bull or avoiding it just in case someone else wins. Check it out!

3.AMONIA
This is a new game! I gave it to Andy for Christmas. Though we haven't played it yet it looks awesome and I've heard so much fun things about it. Here's a review from boardgamegeek.com

Anomia plays off the fact that our minds are positively brimming with all sorts of random information: things to eat, pop songs, websites, etc... Sure, under normal circumstances, it's easy to give an example of a frozen food or a dog breed, but you'll find that your brain works a little differently under pressure!
To play, draw and reveal a card from the center pile. Does the symbol on your card match one on another player's card? If so, you must quickly face-off with the other player by giving an example of the person, place, or thing on his card before he can do the same for yours. If you blurt out a correct answer first, you win his card and the drawing continues.

Sounds simple, right? Wrong! Wild cards allow unlike symbols to match, increasing the number of things to which you must pay attention. Cascading face-offs can occur when you hand over a lost card, thereby revealing a new top card on your play pile.

4. HIVE
Another game we haven't played but have ravs about it! Review from http://gen42.com/hive

Hive is a board game with a difference. There is no board! The pieces are added to the playing area thus creating the board. As more and more pieces are added the game becomes a fight to see who can be the first to capture the opposing Queen Bee.

The soldier ants battle to keep control of the outside of the hive, whilst the Beetles climb up to dominate the top. Spiders moving into holding positions as the Grass Hoppers jump in for the kill. Keeping one eye on the hive and the other on your opponents reserves, the tension builds as one wrong move will see your Queen Bee quickly engulfed; .... game over!

5. SEQUENCE

Such a simple but fun game! It can be played with just 2 people or a group of people. The nice thing about sequence is you can play and conversation can keep going. It's even fun for Kids. Kira loves the kids version and we can still play easily with her and have a great time!

6. PIE FACE:
A popular game among youngsters and well adults too as a matter of fact is Pie Face. It was created to be a kid game but more often than not while we are at a friend’s house we find that the adults join in and have just as much (or more) fun playing it! It is a simple, yet suspenseful game! Somebody is bound to get slapped. You put whipped cream (not included) on the ‘hand’, roll the dice and start turning the handles.  It could go off at any time and you hope you’re not the one it decides to land on. You score a point for every time you turn the handles without getting pie faced. Then the first one to 25 wins!

7. BEAN BOOZLED
This is one that I have YET to play, but hear so much about that I felt like it needed to be on this list! Who doesn’t like jelly beans? Well if you are daring enough to try this game you might think otherwise! It’s a game about chance. You have colored jelly beans in 10 regular {berry blue, buttered popcorn, black liquorish}  matched up 10 wacky {barf-skunk-rotten egg-ones}, a spinner and it’s all up to chance what kind of bean you get! The yummy ones and the wacky flavors match in color so you choose knowing that it could be one of two flavors.  Are you up for the DARE?

8. GAME OF THINGS
This is a party hit! Everyone ends up laughing! Each round all players get to write an answer to a topic card. Answers can be from very serious to pretty outrageous! Everyone takes their turn trying to guess what other people wrote as their answers. Some people put answers you would have never saw coming! That’s the fun of it; you get to put the first thing that comes to mind. The last person to get their answer guessed wins that round.

9. SNORTA
This is the only game that it’s ok to act like a barnyard animal! Everyone gets a barn, and an animal. Each person has a sound those co-insides with their barnyard animal. Once you have announced your sound you put your animal away so that people can’t easily remember what sound it is they need to make. The point of the game is to get rid of all your cards first! Going in a circle everyone starts flipping over their top card. If two cards match, players try and be the first to say the other player’s animal noise. Whoever says it last has to take the opponents cards. It gets pretty wild and funny as those that can’t remember their opponent’s sounds start rambling off all the barnyard noises!

10. HEDBANZ
This one is fun because you can only ask ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions to figure out if the cartoon on your head is an animal, food, or man-made object… ok ok let’s back up! You start off by putting on a hedbanz, you take a card without looking and face it out so all the others can see what it says. Be the first person to guess what you are and you win! Remember, you can only ask ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions on your turn to help you decipher what your card says! This game is fun for anyone 6+ and us adults, once again LOVE it!

Newborn Photographer | Curry Newborns

This little lady was adorable! At nearly one month old she totally ROCKED her newborn session! Typically I try to do newborns at 4-14 days so 30+ days makes a big difference in photos. BUT, for this little one she was an angel and hit all the poses we wanted. So so cute. Mom and Dad are so lucky to have her. After a little bit of a struggle and on oxygen for the first month she's beautiful and perfect. I'm so happy to have snuggled with her and got to know her Mom and Dad.

Congrats you guys!

Utah Newborn Photographer | Larsen Newborns

Swoon. That's what I did the entire time I edited these photos. This little guy was adorable and did an amazing job for us in posing. He is a trooper and soo so handsome.

I met his mom and dad when I did family pictures for a friend just over a year ago. They are such a great couple and some amazing people. I'm so happy to have met and cuddled their little guy.

Thanks again you guys and CONGRATS!

The Tuesday Ten | Keeping New Years Resolutions

6:00 AM Posted by Stacey , No comments
The Tuesday Ten

How to keep a New Year’s Resolution longer than a month!
I think that the beginning of every year people everywhere are
honestly wanting to become healthier, better themselves, and come up
with ideas to see a big change in their lives for the next year. I
know I have honestly made resolutions each year that I swore I was
going to keep, and I did good for a while and as soon as I had a
setback I completely lost hope or figured I had already bombed it and
gave up completely. Have you done that? Well think about these ways to
keep resolutions and either make new ones, or tweak yours so they fit
in these categories.

1. Write down your goals so you read them daily, or sometimes even
weekly.
If you read your goal over and over, you are more likely to
achieve them! Trust me. I write mine on my bathroom mirror and every
time I see them it reminds me that it was something that I Really
wanted for myself.

2. Make your goal achievable and positive. Don’t just say something
like “Exercise” be specific and say something Achievable (remember)
like lose 10lbs by thanksgiving. It isn’t a big step in a short amount
of time. Remember most changes take TIME, eating healthy again, don’t
say cut out ALL sweets, do something like cut out 1 type of sweets a
week, or month, ect.

3. Share your goals with friends and family. The more support you have
the more likely you are to have help to keep them. Some will want to
help you by watching your kids while you go to the gym, or helping you
make healthy eating choices when you go out to lunch. Get a group of
people to try the same thing. The more support you have the better the
outcome.

4. Don’t expect Perfection. You will mess up, there will be set backs.
Its ok. As long as you are moving in the same direction as your goal
you can succeed in keeping your resolution. Remember, every resolution
is like a hill, you have to go down before you can be on the up and
up. Slip ups are normal and part of life. They don’t mean failure.
Don’t wait for tomorrow, or the start of next week. Start getting back
on Track RIGHT NOW.

5. REWARD YOURSELF! That’s easy right? Make milestones and as you
reach them, plan something fun, whether it’s a lunch date, a new
shirt, a new book, a date night, or an activity that you have wanted
to do for a while. Rewarding yourself reminds you that you want to
keep going.

6. Make yourself a priority. You do enough for family, friends, kids,
and co-workers. Give yourself the care, knowledge, and attention that
you need to reach your goals. Take time to make a plan, research how
to achieve it, and visualize what it’s going to be when you do reach
it.

7. Remember that everything is a choice. It is your choice to make a
resolution, it is your choice to eat a burger instead of a salad, it
is your choice to sit on the couch instead of go for a walk. And every
choice has a counter. Ask yourself before everything if this
‘solution’ will really help you in the long run.

8. Keep a journal, write daily or weekly, but reflect back on it.
Keeping track of your accomplishments help realize you are making the
change you want to, and that each day you are moving forward.

9. Believe in yourself. You are your worst critic. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

10. And lastly have fun. If you have something your working on and
make it a chore rather than something fun in life, you are going to
get sick and tired of it very fast and give up. Change it up, think of
ways to spice things up, live your life each day with Passion for that
goal you are trying to achieve. And take time to breathe. Step back
and ponder on the progress you are making!

The Tuesday Ten | Top 10 Photos from 2015

3:00 AM Posted by Stacey , No comments
The Tuesday Ten

This weeks edition of the Tuesday Ten is another recap of 2015. Like last year we are sharing our top 10 favorite photos from this past year!

Oh this was HARD! We had over 250 folders to sift through on my hard drives from 2015. That means a lot of these were picked because of the memories that go along with the photos or session. Congrats if you made it in our top 10 BUT that doesn't mean every session we did isn't amazing on it's own! We love sharing memories, capturing families and smiles for all our clients.

These are in NO particular Order.

1. Vintage Engagement Shoot
This was a fun day. I spent a little over a month planning for this photo shoot with some amazing vendors and other photographers. It turned out awesome and I love the photos. It was really hard to pick just one so check out more from this session on the blog post!  The models we used are awesome people and I'm so excited to photograph their wedding in Feb! Doing free shoots does pay off sometimes, and with these two it's a total win-win!

2. Winter 4x4 Jamboree
I have this secret passion for jeeping, ok maybe it's not so secret because I drive a jeep ha ha BUT We didn't get out as much last year as we'd like to. I sure missed Moab,  St George and all of our groups. This photo was taken in January at the Winter 4x4 Jamboree event in St George of one of our friends Ron Barr going up an incline. Not a super hard line but his rig, the red stone and the sky just make it a perfect picture for me. Check out more from our trip here.

3. Jaxson and Sarah Formals
Oh these two! I had a blast with them for their engagement, formal and wedding sessions! They are such a cute couple, not to mention they are both gorgeous! Their formal session at the Logan Temple was perfect. The sky and weather were spot on and they looked like they just stepped out of a magazine. More of this session here.

4. Hawkes Newborn
This little lady is one of my favorite newborns ever. (It helps that she's my niece). I have tried this pose on many newborns but up until her I had never mastered this... so when she hit it and without photoshop editing I was thrilled! The image on the left is on canvas hanging in my studio. Seriously one of my favorite newborn photos EVER.

5. Berentzen Family
This session stands out in my mind for many reasons. 1. They are beautiful people and make amazing photographs but 2. They were so helpful when I stepped on a Railroad Spike during their session I'll never forget them. (full Story here). I am amazed at how nice and giving some of my clients are like the Berentzen's. I am still thankful to this day it was them with me that day. I got lucky, that's for sure!

6. Sanders Birthstory
This little guy's birthstory was amazing. I was so grateful to share their special day to capture their memories. He is an adorable baby and has an amazing family. His mom did so good  in prepping for their pictures she had all the items she wanted to use to dress him/wrap him and set him on. She's the owner of BATZkids and has some pretty awesome items. I LOVE the milestone blanket and the initial blanket! Totally cute! Check her out.

7. Mike and Cassi Wedding
This wedding at the Linden Barn was amazing, beautiful and FUN! These two are do down to earth, easy going and were a blast to work with.

8. Drake Newborns
Another newborn because I seriously love snuggling these little babies and this lady was no different! She was adorable and such a little "Angel" :)

9. Bransen and Jessica Engagement
These two just tied the knot before Christmas but their engagement session from this fall was beautiful! They are so happy together and I couldn't have had better clients!

10. High Maintenance Dress Up with MaKinlee
Another session I planned. I had to find the perfect chair for this and I did. I love it (and so does my dog Max) and Miss MaKinlee crushed it during this session! More photos here.  It's a vintage look but totally fits little girls. Miss MaKinlee was a beautiful model for me.

Honorable Mentions:

And though I didn't take the two photographs below, they are among my top for this year! I can't thank Endless Photography enough! He was an amazing Engagement and Wedding Photographer. If you don't hire us (Stacey Hansen Photography) I suggest hiring him. :) Check out more from these sessions at the links:

I also thought it was fun to look back on the last 3 years! See the top photos for those years in the links below and notice the change in style, editing and composition. It's amazing the difference practice and time can make on creating a picture.
